8 Tips for hiring a wedding photographer

1. Experience: You don’t want to be someone’s guinea pig. Do they have the experience necessary? Joe Miller has been photographing weddings for more than 20 years.

2. Personality: You will be spending most of your wedding day with this person. Does the photographer have a pleasant personality or an abrasive or egotistical attitude that will spoil your special day? Additional note: beware of large businesses where you may not meet the photographer in person. Brides often comment on how pleasant it was to work with Joe on their special day.

3. Professional equipment: Make sure the photographer uses professional quality equipment including having backup equipment. Joe Miller uses high-quality digital SLRs including a backup digital system.

4. Other cameras allowed: Your friends and relatives should be able to take their own photos rather than be forced to purchase them from the photographer. Joe allows them to capture any images he has posed.

5. Style: Be sure to see that the style of the photographer matches your preferences. Joe combines both formal and photojournalistic styles to match many brides' preferences, but through discussion, he can help determine if there is a match between a potential bride and his style.

6. Quality: Does the photographer consistently produce quality images? Photographing weddings for more than 20 years provides Joe with a level of experience to assure quality images.

7. Top quality service: Do you get the same level of service regardless of how much you spend? You shouldn’t get lower quality photography because your budget is smaller. Joe Miller provides consistent quality service to all customers regardless of their pocketbook.

8. Extra costs: Beware of extra costs the photographer may try to add on. Is what you see on the pricelist, what you get or are you expected to pay for finishing services and other fees. Be sure to compare, not only package prices, but also individual print prices. You receive the digital files after Joe Miller photographs your wedding. You can have prints made wherever you like. You can order 4x6 prints from Joe Miller Photography, or go somewhere else if you prefer.
